Licences and activation

Your licence is a small file the application can check entirely by itself, using a key built into it. That check needs no internet connection, no account lookup and no call to us.

What activation does

Activation records which machines are using your licence, so the number of devices it covers can be kept honest and a stolen key can be cancelled. It is not what makes the software run.

If our servers are unreachable

Nothing happens. Your application keeps working. It quietly tries again later. After a long stretch offline it will remind you to reconnect, and it keeps working while it reminds you.

The software you paid for opens whether or not we are still answering the phone. That is a constraint the licensing system is designed around, not a courtesy.

How many devices

A licence covers a set number of devices. You can see every machine using yours from your account, and remove one yourself. Moving to a new laptop does not need a support ticket.

Machines with no internet at all

For a machine that never goes online, we issue a licence file tied to a code you generate on that machine. Only that scrambled code ever leaves it, and nothing that identifies your hardware is sent.
